The Personal Self-Identity Illusion: Why You Can’t Fix an Ego That Doesn’t Exist

After twenty-one years of exhausting Spiritual searching, therapy, and existential grief, I uncover an Eternal Truth: human suffering stems from the false belief that we are fragile, mortal beings separate from God. By reframing SELF-Identity through the lens of Genesis 1:26, this article reveals that your true INDIVIDUAL SELF-Identity is not a physical body, a personal self-identity, or an ego that needs to be fixed, but a recognition of your God’s INDIVIDUAL SELF-Identity, the unified, Indivisible Spirit-and-Soul BEING. True peace arrives not by striving to reach GOD, but by resting in the BEING that you are already Whole, UNbroken, and Eternal.

For twenty-one years, I asked the question: WHO AM I?

Not the way you type it into a search bar at midnight hoping an article will hand you a tidy answer.

I asked it the way a person asks when everything has collapsed—when grief is the air you breathe, when depression is not a mood but a country you live in, and when you have done everything the gurus said to do, yet still feel like a stranger inside your own life.

I asked it after the loss. After the therapy. After the prayers, the retreats, and the books stacked beside my bed like a monument to every answer that didn’t hold. And the terrifying thing?

Every answer I was given was true—and none of it was enough.

The Illusion of Separation.

Here is what no one told me.

What the gurus quietly skipped over.

What religion pointed toward but could never quite say: The question Who am I? is not a philosophical problem waiting for a clever solution.

It is your soul recognizing that it has forgotten something—something so fundamental, so close, and so woven into the very fabric of your true BEING that you have been living your entire life without it.

You have not lost yourself.

You have simply believed that you could.

That single belief—the belief that you are a mortal, fragile human, separate from God, forever seeking and forever lacking—is the root of all human suffering.

We trap ourselves within the ego’s story of who you are.

We mistake our transient thoughts and physical bodies for reality, building an identity out of temporary labels: a name, a birthplace, a profession, or a history of trauma.

When external circumstances shift, this fragile persona shatters, launching us into a profound identity crisis.

We spend years trying to fix or evolve this personal self—grafting new routines onto it, forcing it to meditate, pray, or acquire insights.

Yet, trying to polish an illusion only perpetuates the illusion itself.

The Genesis of True Identity.

What I discovered on the other side of twenty-one years was not a new practice, a better technique, or a more enlightened teacher. It was a revelation so simple and absolute that I wept the moment it arrived.

To understand who you truly are, you must return to the origin of identity itself according to God’s definition: Genesis 1:26; realization of BEING.

GOD’s Definition Of INDIVIDUAL SELF-Identity

“THE ETERNAL SELF (I) =[ SPIRIT ] + [ SOUL ] = ONE SINGLE ETERNAL BEING | | (Substance) (Awareness) (The Image and Likeness of God) | | Omnipresent • Indivisible • Flawless Perfection.”

You are the GOD Man brought forth in Genesis 1:26—in the exact Image and Likeness of God.

This is the true ‘I”, where Spirit and Soul operate not as two separated entities striving to reunite, but as ONE SINGLE ETERNAL BEING.

Not Material or Inherited: This true SELF-Identity is not a physical body passed down through biological parents. It is Pure Spirit Being, untouched by human history, time, or mortality.

Complete Totality: This “I” is an ETERNAL STATE OF WHOLENESS.

It is completely free from sin and death, limiting beliefs, limitation, separation, or duality.

“The ONE AND ONLY SUBSTANCE: Spirit serves as the ETERNAL SUBSTANCE OF EXISTENCE ITSELF. You do not exist; inside the world, the universe and all its contents exist within this Eternal Mind.”

STOP the Effort to Fix the Ego.

All mental, emotional, and physical afflictions—fear, guilt, disease, and the terror of death—arise from operating under a false premise: that the Soul was somehow separated from its Source and cast into a fallen, mortal world.

The Personal Self-Identity Illusion:

Built on labels, body, and history

Bound by time, birth, and death

Perpetually seeking peace and God

Your True GOD’s-SELF-Identity And Eternal BEING (“I”)

Unborn, timeless, and formless Spirit

Existing NOW and always in Eternal Life

Is Peace, Joy, and Wholeness ITSELF

One Indivisible Totality; no otherness

Stop all strivings to overcome, repair, or spiritualize the mortal personal self. That fabricated persona is not who you are, and it can never be made into the Divine.

The Spirit + Soul unified Being has never been separated, has never fallen, and has never been lost. Wisdom and perfection are not goals to achieve in the future; they are the active, constant reality of your true Identity right now.

Living as the True SELF

To experience the deep peace, profound happiness, and unshakeable joy we instinctively crave, we must pivot from trying to reach God to simply identifying as the Eternal expression of Spirit.

  • Abandon the Assumption of Loss: Realize that Wholeness is not something to be earned or found. You cannot lose what you intrinsically are.
  • Recognize the SINGLENESS OF BEING: There is no dual existence. Duality (Spirit vs. Matter, Good vs. Evil, Self vs. God) is an illusion born of misidentification.
  • Rest in the I-AM: True rest—the Rest of God—occurs when the Soul recognizes its true Self-Identity as the undivided, Omniactive Awareness present everywhere at once as OMNIPRESENCE BEING IT IS.

You are not the fragile person searching at midnight for answers. You are the timeless, indestructible Awareness in which all searching begins and ends. Stop seeking what you already are, and step into the freedom of your true Being.

Conclusion: Step Into Your True BEING

The relentless search for “who you are” ends the moment you stop trying to repair a persona built on temporary labels, history, and trauma. You do not need to evolve, polish, or spiritualize the ego—you simply need to recognize that it was never your true identity to begin with.

You are not the fragile seeker wandering in the dark. You are the Eternal, UNdivided Spirit-Soul BEING brought forth in Complete Wholeness. Stop striving to reach a God you were never separated from, lay down the burden of self-improvement, and step into the quiet, unshakeable freedom of who you have always been.
